MoL and QC Examine Private Sector's Perspectives on Mandatory Health Insurance System

Doha, March 24 (QNA) - HE Qatar Chamber (QC) Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani praised the Ministry of Labour's (MoL) interest in listening to the perspectives and viewpoints of business owners regarding the mandatory health insurance system for migrant workers.

This came in a joint meeting between the Qatar Chamber (QC) and the Ministry of Labour (MoL) which was held to address the private sector's take on the mandatory health insurance system for non-Qataris.

The joint meeting was co-chaired by HE QC Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Assistant Undersecretary for Migrant Labour Affairs at the MoL Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

Also present at the meeting were several QC board members, the Acting General Manager, as well as representatives of insurance companies, and many Qatari businessmen.

During the meeting, HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani stressed Qatar Chamber's keenness on conveying the private sector's perspectives on the system to the relevant authorities, emphasizing the importance of addressing the challenges encountered by the Qatari private sector in relation to the system together with the Ministry before finalizing the system and commencing its implementation.
For her part, HE Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani emphasized that business owners are the most crucial stakeholders with a direct connection to the system. She stressed the Ministry's keen interest in familiarizing itself with their perspectives and proposals before finalizing the system's draft.

Her Excellency also emphasized the Ministry's commitment to conducting the necessary consultations with all concerned parties in the country, including business owners, stressing that the aim is to formulate the best model that serves the national health strategy.

The meeting addressed the private sector's concerns regarding the challenges that could occur during the initial implementation of the system, such as the standard for calculating insurance policies, the issue of chronic diseases, medical service provider accreditation, setting insurance coverage limits, defining the implementation stages, among other related viewpoints and challenges.
